Our journey begins with an exciting first day of walking, starting in the picturesque town of Foz do Douro, just a quick 15-minute drive from our hotel. From there, we’ll wind our way along the coast to the quaint town of Vila do Conde. Each morning, we’ll be up and ready to go by 8:30, hitting the trail bright and early. But before that, there’s the daily ritual of packing up the big bag, heading downstairs, and fueling up with a hearty breakfast.
The path to Valença promises nothing short of stunning views. We’ll follow the dramatic coastline of Portugal, with the sound of the ocean setting the rhythm for our walk to Vila Praia de Âncora. From there, we’ll head inland toward the historic town of Valença, weaving through Portugal’s diverse landscapes and coastal beauty.
Today’s lunch
Today’s adventure covered approximately 28 kilometers, a solid 6.5 hours of walking. We paused for a refreshing coffee break at 11:00 and enjoyed lunch at Lancar O Isco around 13:30, soaking in the local flavors along the way.
This year, I’m part of a guided walking group of 15 fellow walkers and 2 experienced guides, and I’m already reaping the rewards of the camaraderie and support that come with walking in a group.
